The event “TAKING CARE – Meeting to raise awareness on volunteer guardianship of unaccompanied foreign minors”, organized by UNICEF, will take place next Saturday 20 January 2024 from 11 am to 1 pm at the Casa Candussi Pasiani, Centro Culturale del Comune di Romans d’Isonzo (Gorizia). 

During the morning the following topics will be discussed: being a volunteer guardian and the important role of support in ensuring the implementation of rights and of the recognition of the identity of the unaccompanied foreign minors. It’s an opportunity to listen to the testimony of those who have already chosen to take this path and to get to know some workshop activities that have engaged the minors in a positive way. 

At the meeting the following will speak:

  • Paolo Pittaro, Guarantor of people rights – opening greeting. Topics: the role of the volunteer guardian in taking care of minors; information on the training course for aspiring guardians
  • Lucio Prodam, Honorary Judge of the Juvenile court of Trieste appointed to the appointment of volunteer guardians; Topics: Phenomenology of unaccompanied foreign minors and photograph of the protection system of volunteer guardianship in Friuli-Venezia Giulia; the duties of the volunteer guardian in coordination with the other people involved in taking charge of the minor
  • M. Eleonora Benini, responsible of widespread reception and volunteer guardianship projects in UNICEF; Topics: Overview of the actions put in place by UNICEF in order to strengthen the system of volunteer guardianship and of widespread reception of unaccompanied foreign minors
  • Federico Donelli, University of Trieste; Topics: Why migrate? Climate change, geopolitical context and institutional fragilities
  • Morena Maresia, educational services, archeological, belle arti and landscapes of Friuli-Venezia Giulia superintendency – Topics: Educating on cultural heritage: meetings to know and recognize each other 
  • Francesco Zanuttin, Volunteer organization Donk HM – Topics: Street medicine, treating visible and invisible wounds in order to enable an effective integration of minors 
  • Alessandro Infanti, Ad Formandum – Topics: Educational program for unaccompanied foreign minors as a fundamental element in the path to care, acknowledgement, recovery and growth of resources and expertise
  • Manuel Grosso and Ambra Marega – Teaching art as protection of the right to play to consent the knowledge of different identities and to guarantee an effective integration 
  • Giulia Piran, volunteer guardian; Bleron, guarded minor and referent of the minor community Timavo, Monfalcone (Gorizia) – Topics: The experience of volunteer guardianship and of working in a network with the reception communities of minors.
