Thanks to over 40 volunteers active 5 days a week in 6 outpatient clinics and in support of 16 assistance centers, in 2020 DonK HM provided 2,541 visits, almost all to men and without health cards, with an increase of 57% compared to 2019. The main age group ranges from 19 to 40 years with a significant incidence of dermatological diseases (38.9%).

The telephone support made it possible to answer 419 calls between April and December 2020 (in full pandemic) and to provide support to operators of the assisted structures and their guests, often also people who could not access basic care, despite having the health card, due to the restrictions given by the pandemic.

These are the main data contained in the 2020 Activity Report which was shared between March and April with the volunteers, donors and collaborators who allowed DonK HM to guarantee free health care with basic and specialist medicine services for the homeless, asylum seekers, refugees and victims of torture.

Access to treatment, in fact, is a principle enshrined in our Constitution, but currently disregarded for asylum seekers and more fragile sections of the populations and is made even more complicated due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Also, for this reason, the commitment on the part of the associations and entities that offer free health care in the Province of Trieste is particularly valuable in guaranteeing the public health of the whole community.
